What Where Why How Budget Who
  • Project Title: Medical Students for Coachart
    Project Category: Health
    Project Mission/Blurb:

To create a framework for USC Medical Students to become volunteer coaches to teach art and music lessons to pediatric patients of the Los Angeles Community.

Who I intend to help :

Children with chronic or life-threatening diseases and their siblings.

  • Location : Los Angeles, California United States
    Address:

    3246 Descanso Drive

  • Why I am doing this project :

Medical students with artistic and musical backgrounds have a unique understanding of both these creative arts and the field of medicine.  The advantage of training these individuals as volunteer coaches is hugely impactful to the CoachArt mission.

    1. Medical Students can understand the medical needs of the pediatric patient population that CoachArt focuses on.
    2. Medical Students can both motivate these children creatively and academically in life.
    3. Medical Students can have a positive and friendly relationship with these patients outside their serious medical attention for their grave disease.
  • What I need to help finish this project : Money, Volunteers, Expertise/Mentorship
    Process so far :

Last year 12 USC medical students became volunteer coaches and the project was a huge success.  Each of these students took on pediatric patients and gave a series of at least 10 lessons in the arts or athletics

How will you complete the project:

I intend to utilize the LongTail Grants database and fundraising system to both publicize these medical students action and possibly raise funds for art supplies and musical instruments to supply a permanent CoachArt lesson room on the USC Health Sciences Campus for lessons.
